Since 2005, the Department of Languages and Mass Communication has given students a space to find their voice. Under Kathmandu University School of Arts, we have built a place for our students, where they can explore media and communication, work on literary and language proficiency, and enhance their skills in these disciplines.
We have grown into a department with eleven distinct programs: short-term courses, undergraduate degrees in Media Studies, English, and Mass Communication, plus master’s and doctoral research for those who want to go deeper in academia.

Our students study communication, literature and theory, tell stories that need telling, run newsrooms, build their own media ventures, and start conversations that actually create an impact. This department stands out for its multidisciplinary approach.
Our faculty members care about the small stuff to the overall grooming of the students. Our department has been known for mentoring students from the very beginning, and boosting their confidence in every obstacle they face. Students are encouraged to become inquisitive, make mistakes, and finally rectify those mistakes and learn from it. These tiny moments matter.
The department owns professional equipment which means students can apply what they learn in classrooms and actually experiment on their own.
Here’s something we are extremely proud of: every graduate has come out with flying colors. The 100% employment rate isn’t just a number we are boastful about - it means we take the future of students seriously. Our alumni are out there now, telling stories, making content, teaching, building Nepal's media presence both at home and internationally. They have gone far, but they haven’t forgotten their roots, the place where they have flourished.
